Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 5, 2026

This policy explains what personal information Daring Tales collects, why we use it, who helps us handle it, how long we keep it and how you can control it. Children’s photos need extra care, so they have their own section below.

Who is responsible for your data

Daring Tales, run by a sole trader (micro-entrepreneur) registered in France. Write to us through our Contact page.

Under EU and UK data protection law (the GDPR and the UK GDPR), we are the “controller” of your data.

What we collect

  • Your details: your name, your email address and the billing details you enter at checkout.
  • Your child’s details: their first name and the photo you upload.
  • What we make for you: the preview and the movie, which show your child’s face.
  • Your order: the movies and options you chose, the amount, the date and your country.
  • Your messages: what you write to us and our replies.
  • Technical data: your IP address, your device and browser, and how you use the store. Shopify collects this through cookies and similar tools.

Your card details go straight to our payment provider. We only see limited details, such as the card type and the last four digits.

Children’s photos

Only a parent or legal guardian, or someone with their permission, may upload a photo of a child. When you upload one, you confirm that you have the right to do so.

We use the photo only to make your preview and your movie. We do not use it to identify or recognize anyone.

  • We never sell your child’s photo, preview or movie.
  • We never use them to train AI models.
  • We never post them on our website, on social media or in ads without your written permission.
  • The AI image and video providers that make the preview and the movie act on our instructions. They may use the photo only for that purpose.

We delete the photo you upload 30 days after your movie is delivered. If you don’t order, we delete the photo and the preview 30 days after you upload the photo.

Want it deleted sooner? Use our Contact page with the subject “Delete my photo”. We delete the photo and the preview, and the movie too if you ask, then confirm by email. We do this within one month at the latest.

Why we use your data

We use your data only for the purposes below. For customers in the EU and the UK, the legal basis is shown in brackets.

  • To make your free preview and your movie, deliver them and answer your questions (to perform our contract with you; for your child’s photo, also your consent as their parent or guardian, which you can withdraw at any time).
  • To take payment, prevent fraud and keep our store secure (our legitimate interest in running a safe store).
  • To keep our accounting records (a legal obligation).
  • To send you news and offers, only if you signed up (your consent; every email has an unsubscribe link).

Who helps us

We share data only with the providers that help us run Daring Tales:

  • Shopify: our online store, checkout, customer accounts and order emails.
  • Stripe: card payments.
  • Cloud hosting and storage providers: they store photos, previews and movies.
  • AI image and video providers: they make the preview and the movie from your photo.

Our hosting and AI providers act only on our instructions. Shopify and Stripe also handle some data under their own privacy policies, for example to prevent payment fraud.

We may also share data when the law requires it, for example with a court or the tax authorities.

Data sent outside Europe

Some of our providers are based in, or store data in, countries outside the EU and the UK, such as the United States and Canada. When that happens, we use the safeguards the law requires, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses with the UK addendum, or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework when the provider is certified.

How long we keep it

  • Photos: 30 days after delivery, or after upload if you don’t order.
  • Previews you don’t buy: deleted at the same time as the photo.
  • Your movie: kept for 12 months, then deleted. Download it to keep your own copy.
  • Order and billing records: 10 years, as French accounting law requires.
  • Messages with us: as long as we need them to handle your request and any follow-up.
  • Marketing emails: until you unsubscribe.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

  • show you the data we hold about you and give you a copy;
  • correct it;
  • delete it;
  • limit how we use it, or object to how we use it;
  • send it to you or to another company in a common format;
  • stop using it where you gave consent, for example for your child’s photo or our emails.

Write to us through our Contact page. We answer within one month. We may ask you to confirm who you are first, for example by writing from the email you used to order.

You can also complain to a data protection authority: the CNIL in France (www.cnil.fr), the ICO in the UK (ico.org.uk) or the authority where you live.

Your rights in the United States

If you live in California or in another US state with a privacy law, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose, to get a copy of it, to correct it and to delete it. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.

We do not sell or share your personal information, as “sell” and “share” are defined under California law (the CCPA, as amended by the CPRA), and we have not done so in the past 12 months. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer anything about you.

To use your rights, write to us through our Contact page. Someone you authorize can also make a request for you. We may ask you to confirm who you are.

Children

Daring Tales is for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. A child’s first name and photo come to us only from a parent, a legal guardian or someone with their permission. If you think a child has sent us their own information, write to us and we will delete it.

Cookies

Our store uses the cookies it needs to work, for example to keep your cart and checkout running and to keep the store secure. Shopify sets these cookies. We also use your browser’s local storage to keep track of your preview while you create it.

Any analytics or advertising cookies are set only with your consent where the law requires it, and you can change your choice at any time.

Security

We protect your data with secure connections and access controls, and we limit who can see it. Your movie link is private. Please share your movie only with people you trust.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We will change the date at the top, and if we make an important change, we will tell you on this page or by email.
